Choose basemaps and 2D/3D terrain directly on the map. Historical edition controls are below. The searchable edition catalog is also available under Tools.

Satellite closeups use USGS NAIP Plus when zoomed in (online). Imagery dates and resolution vary by location. Road labels in the combined layer may be unavailable at extreme close zoom.

LIBRARY CLEANUP · LOCAL ONLY

Manage folder

Folder actions include every item in this folder and its subfolders, even if the list displays only 120 or a search displays only 250.

Delete local folder contents

Choose exactly what to delete from this folder and all subfolders. Your original Google Earth export is not modified. This deletes the matching records from this browser's library, not from other computers.

Permanent for this browser. Download and KEEP a complete library backup first. The app cannot verify whether your browser saved the file; confirm it is in Downloads before continuing.

No records will be removed until you confirm.
OMNITOPO DATA

Import, export & backup

Import

Bring in Gaia/onX GPX, Google Earth KML/KMZ (styles retained), GeoJSON, or a whole folder.

Re-import original Google Earth KML/KMZ to recover colors, opacity, borders and folder labels on matching areas without duplicating them. Existing custom colors are protected.

Safekeeping

Full library backup includes original points, timestamps, track colors, visibility, and transport/activity classifications.

Export

Save geographic data as GeoJSON for another mapping application.

Local browser storage remains available for offline work. When private cloud is configured and signed in, you can sync your library; always keep independent downloaded backups.

Activities (optional)

A reviewed track is removed from the Needs review queue even with no activity tag. Travel mode is a single choice per recording; activities can overlap. A dirtbike is always included by the Off-road parent filter. Save a library backup before large changes.

LOCAL GPS ANALYSIS · v0.11.3

Smart classification review

Suggestions use GPS timestamps, movement, and overlap with tracks you already classified. Travel speeds cannot reliably identify a Jeep versus dirtbike, paved versus dirt roads, or whether you were hunting or working. Auto-organize assigns only broad travel types with strong evidence; it never auto-confirms your review or adds activity tags.

Automatic classification · batch scan

Use your confirmed tracks as local reference examples, plus GPS movement and explicit trail names. On-foot inference requires independent positive evidence and stays below 10 miles; speed alone is not enough. Missing timestamps are reported separately. A matching route is not proof of which vehicle you used, so uncertain cases stay unclassified. Activities and legal access are never guessed.

Scan to find supported inferences. Nothing changes until you apply; a library backup downloads first.
Individual review · investigate uncertain tracks
Choose a scope and run analysis. Original GPX files and local records remain unchanged.

“Needs review” includes both unclassified and partially classified tracks. Marking Reviewed is independent of travel/activity tags, reversible in Edit / info, and saved in GeoJSON and full library backups. Analysis is local and works on recordings already imported. Sparse or poor-quality timestamps are reported as insufficient evidence. Suggestions aren't verified trail access or travel restrictions.

About OmniTopo

Created by Blaine Brentzel.

OmniTopo is an independently developed geographic exploration and mapping project. Its purpose is to bring together topographic maps, old USGS maps, outdoor travel, mines, hunting, climbing, and personal exploration history in one place.

Map tiles and reference GIS information are provided by their respective data publishers, including USGS and BLM. OmniTopo is not affiliated with those agencies.

The creator credit is a statement on this website; it is not independently verified proof of authorship.
